Nick Hennessy

Nick Hennessy was born in Copenhagen, Denmark and raised in Minneapolis, MN. Growing up, he was always drawing, known as the “artist” among classmates. During high school, Nick enrolled at the Perpich Center for Arts Education, a publicly funded arts based high school in Golden Valley, his junior and senior year. While studying visual art, Nick experienced some setbacks with his art and upon graduation, began studying literature and moved to Omaha at the age of 21. There, he had his son Christian in 2009 and became a chef. Nick has worked in many restaurants, and includes being invited to cook at Noma, named the world’s best restaurant for much of the 2000s as the peak of his culinary journey. In 2020, while much of the world was furloughed, Nick rediscovered his passion for the arts and began painting portraits for his friends. “I was pretty amazed to discover the magic of acrylic painting again. I had studied acrylic and some oils in high school, so I had a general knowledge of what I was doing, but a lot of it was experimentation.” Nick continued to do portraits for friends here and there. For Christmas of 2023, Nick began working on a portrait of his mother and her husband. Searching the internet, he discovered realisticacrylic.com and says “it revolutionized the way I paint.” Nick became a member of the community and is looking forward to implementing Matt’s techniques, whom he says he has “a profound respect and appreciation for” and doing much more artwork in 2024. “It’s all about making time for your passion, some would even call it a calling. I have more people give me positive feedback on my portraits than anything else I’ve put out into the world.”
